I Ching Hexagram #11:

Peace In The Heart

How to interpret "Peace In The Heart"

NOTE: This is the "Love I-Ching" interpretation. For standard, non romance-specific I Ching interpretations please return to the reference page here.

This powerful hexagram, which in its most literal sense means "Heaven supporting the Earth" is an indication of peace and spiritual love. This is a sign of prosperity, intimacy, and success. Heaven and the Earth are in spiritual contact at this time, and a harmony exists between them. This dynamic is a reflection of what is going on inside you. The spiritual and the physical are in sync. While your natural attractiveness may make you hard to resist right now, the increase in attention might feel overwhelming -- and could even seem intrusive at some point. Relationship challenges at this time can be reduced by keeping your focus inside yourself, on the peace in your heart and on your own positive qualities. Activities which combine mental and physical activity are positively referenced here. On the other hand, something purely physical (or purely mental) will seem obviously "shallow" at this time.

Changes in Line 1

"When Grass is Uprooted, Other Plants Follow"

This line reminds us that forces that affect one person, also affect surrounding people. Little things you do will affect someone else in big ways at this time. Another way of saying this is: "A rising tide lifts all ships". Being a positive role model will improve your relationships.

Changes in Line 2

"Be a Beacon to Others"

Your search for love will soon end. But it is important to commit to brightening the lives of all those who have not shared in your success. Be of services to others and you will achieve even greater love and enlightenment.

Changes in Line 3

"Avoiding Traps of Superficial Love"

This line is a reminder that even in times of deep love with another, one must remember to be conscious of one's self. Love yourself. The inherent love in your heart is more important than the facades of outer success, for one's nature goes with one at all times.

Changes in Line 4

"Avoid Arrogance"

You will be rather lucky in love at this time, but you are strongly advised not to boast about your success. Those who boast may be reminded harshly that arrogance breeds dissonance.

Changes in Line 5

"Focus on What You Want"

Overall, this is a time of happiness, harmony and success in matters of love. But stay mindful. Focus on what you want, not on lack. Such focus will prevent loss, sadness and heartbreak. One who treats success as if it "should" happen will be reminded that sometimes it does not.

Changes in Line 6

"The Castle Wall Tumbles to the Moat"

This line suggests that your journey toward peace and deep love may suffer a setback. That which was depended upon, may now be leaving rapidly. As love disappears temporarily, there is great opportunity here. Make note of who and what is truly important. Stay the course and you will be rewarded.

A note on iFate's I Ching translation: This is not a direct translation of the original "Book of Changes" from 1000 BC. While multiple translations of the original text are available, they include many archaic references and can be difficult to understand for 21st century readers. iFate uses our own modern rewritings (two different editions) of the "Book of Changes" which makes interpreting I Ching readings far simpler. For iFate's additional contemporary re-writing of the original text, see our "Love I Ching" translation.
