The Meaning of the "Justice" Tarot Card

(Applies to the upright position)

The Symbolism of the Tarot Card:

A wide-eyed woman in sumptuous robes and crown holds a sword upraised in one hand, and the scales of justice in another. Her gaze is steady and sure. She is the goddess Justisia, who is frequently shown in courthouses and law edifices everywhere as wearing a blindfold - here she wears no blindfold.

The Meaning of the Tarot Card:

The meaning of this card is Justice in all of its forms. The fact that Justice is here not blindfolded refers to the fact that we must face our own trial of the soul before Justice before continuing on our journey.

The scales represent perfect equilibrium - the sword represents being able to cut to the heart of a matter quickly and keenly. The scales are also the balance of present and future.

This is a card through which one takes responsibility for his or her actions, realizing that everything that they did in the past has shaped them, and everything that they do in the future will continue to do so. The person who is transitioning through this card no longer regards their actions as having no effect on their lives - they accept and are aware of their actions as having consequences.

Where the Lovers was a card about choice in the romantic and emotional realms, Justice is a card about the basic choices that we make everyday, and how they form us. The deep gaze of Justice is looking directly at the heart of us, encouraging us to tell the truth and be honest with ourselves in all things. This is the process of maturity, and it is only through this self-examination, and weighing of our actions, that we become wise.

The situation that is present now has happened because the individual, through their own thoughts and actions, have willed it into being. They have reaped what they have sown, whether it is good or bad. There is a need for absolute honesty right now about everything. A lot of the future depends upon what the individual did in the past. Balance through trial.
