The Meaning of the "Judgement" Tarot Card
(Applies to the upright position)
The Symbolism of the Tarot Card:

A great angel, encompassed by clouds, blows his trumpet and delivers his message to the rising souls below.

A cross is on the banner attached to his trumpet, creating an obvious depiction of the Last Judgement.

All of the people that have ever lived are as one in their appreciation and adoration of the angel's message - they all raise their arms in worship. They float serenely on the sea, hills rising in the distance. All of the earth seems to be struggling to rise up and meet the angel's message.

The Meaning of the Tarot Card:

A call has come from something greater than ourselves to rise up and achieve a higher order of existence than we were previously used to. It is a call that can't be ignored.

The mountains in the background were called the "mountains of abstract thought" by the deck's creator. They refer to a higher order of thought than that which one usually uses in everyday life. It is as if the mountains themselves are trying to answer the call of the angel's trumpet as well.

In order to get to the state where one is ready to answer this call, the message of this card is that one must be willing to cast everything off and be nothingness. This is a final stock-taking before moving onwards and upwards.

Coming to terms with past experiences in order to move on. There is a strong push for change despite any other forces at work in the life of the individual. It is a change that has already begun to happen beneath the notice of the person in question - they just need to accept it, to heed the call.
