Earth Earth
Mountain Earth

The starting hexagram #2 is composed of the upper trigram of Earth positioned above an identical lower trigram of Earth.

The successive transformed hexagram, #23, can be broken down into a transitioned upper trigram of Mountain positioned above an untransformed lower trigram of Earth.

The starting hexagram #2:
"The Receptive"

The meaning of hexagram #2

The Receptive is the hexagram denoting "devotion" and the spirit of the Earth. Fertile ground is required for creation. The hexagram of "the receptive" often has a strong female meaning, but can denote a powerful relationship between either a man and a woman, a father and son or between friends. A conscious act of devotion and a willingness to stand by that person, principle or force which sustains us, guides us or fills us with energy.

The changing lines between hexagram 2 and hexagram 23

Changing line #6

"The Battle of Dragons" - A change in this line represents two dragons fighting. One is real, the other is a false dragon which will be defeated, but both will suffer injury. This is a battle which has been fought before -- and will be fought again.

The future hexagram #23:
"Splitting Apart"

The meaning of hexagram #23

Peeling away, implosion and crumbling down are indicated in this serious hexagram. It is not a time to take new actions or purposely change course. Instead, let change happen through surrender. When the Earth's energy erupts, all one can do is get out of the way and accept this force. Stay alert and conscious. The wise person sees this as an opportunity to shed outdated thoughts, feelings and concerns. Destruction sometimes has value.
