Mountain Thunder
Mountain Earth

The beginning hexagram #27 can be broken down into the upper trigram of Mountain positioned above the lower trigram of Thunder.

The second transformed hexagram, #23, is built from a preserved upper trigram of Mountain positioned above a transformed lower trigram of Earth.

The starting hexagram #27:
"Nourishment"

The meaning of hexagram #27

The image of an open mouth is portrayed by this hexagram. This is a time to nourish one's body, mind and spirit. It is also a time to delight in nourishing others. Remember, giving and receiving are not inherently different. To give is to receive. Feed yourself with good ideas, good actions, good books, good teachers and good people.

The changing lines between hexagram 27 and hexagram 23

Changing line #1

"The Sacred Turtle"-In this line, the turtle symbolizes wisdom and spiritual openness. Admire these qualities in others and notice them in yourself. If you ignore them, misfortune could start to crawl into your life.

The future hexagram #23:
"Splitting Apart"

The meaning of hexagram #23

Peeling away, implosion and crumbling down are indicated in this serious hexagram. It is not a time to take new actions or purposely change course. Instead, let change happen through surrender. When the Earth's energy erupts, all one can do is get out of the way and accept this force. Stay alert and conscious. The wise person sees this as an opportunity to shed outdated thoughts, feelings and concerns. Destruction sometimes has value.
