Mountain Thunder
Water Earth

The beginning hexagram #27 is composed of the upper trigram of Mountain over the lower trigram of Thunder.

The secondary changed hexagram, #8, can be broken down into a transitioned upper trigram of Water over a transitioned lower trigram of Earth.

The starting hexagram #27:
"Nourishment"

The meaning of hexagram #27

The image of an open mouth is portrayed by this hexagram. This is a time to nourish one's body, mind and spirit. It is also a time to delight in nourishing others. Remember, giving and receiving are not inherently different. To give is to receive. Feed yourself with good ideas, good actions, good books, good teachers and good people.

The changing lines between hexagram 27 and hexagram 8

Changing line #1

"The Sacred Turtle"-In this line, the turtle symbolizes wisdom and spiritual openness. Admire these qualities in others and notice them in yourself. If you ignore them, misfortune could start to crawl into your life.

Changing line #5

"Stepping off the Path"- Nurture yourself by taking a break from forward motion. Stand still for a while. Don't start a new project, job or romance just yet. Seek spiritual counsel first.

Changing line #6

"Being the Source of Nourishment"- This line is a green light to go ahead. You have achieved a sense of self-nourishment, and others will respond to it. You will be effortlessly supported by others. Gather your team and go forward as planned, knowing success will come.

The future hexagram #8:
"Union"

The meaning of hexagram #8

This hexagram represents the binding force, or commitments that exist between two people or organizations. Through union we become more powerful and yet we must also remember that to some extent we become less free. Strong commitment and authority is required, but so is a letting go of personal desires for the sake of the greater good. Union is an agreement and a blessing. It is a force for strength, but it must also be nurtured and protected. A union that is not defended will eventually shatter.
