Lake Mountain
Fire Lake

The initial hexagram #31 is composed of the upper trigram of Lake above the lower trigram of Mountain.

The following transformed hexagram, #38, is built from a transformed upper trigram of Fire above a transformed lower trigram of Lake.

The starting hexagram #31:
"Influence"

The meaning of hexagram #31

We are all interconnected and we all affect each other's lives. This hexagram symbolizes the power each of us has to support one another, change and charm one another. This is a time to cooperate and connect. The deeper and broader meaning of relationships comes into play as one explores the ways that friends and lovers change each other. This will be a time when you easily bring someone new into your life. You can understand your lover/partner/co-worker by studying them and their movements. Win their approval with your loyalty and steadfast vision.

The changing lines between hexagram 31 and hexagram 38

Changing line #1

"Watching the Walk"- Observing how another individual walks through their life can teach all you need to know about the situation at hand. Watch how others walk, think, behave, breathe, eat. This will help you discern who is, and who is not, a worthy partner.

Changing line #2

"Observing the Calves"- This line means that anyone with a poor intention will walk with a poor stride, and they may cause trouble for you. What is the motive behind someone's foot work? Know it well before you connect with them.

Changing line #3

"Observing the Thighs"- This line is a reminder that our changing moods influence our movements. Don't follow someone blindly. Be sensitive and gentle toward the shifting emotions in yourself and others

Changing line #5

"Patting Yourself on the Back"- If we cannot influence ourselves, we cannot produce positive change in others. Growth starts from within. Cheer others on by way of cheering yourself on first. Your attitude toward yourself determines your attitude toward others

Changing line #6

"Being Real"- This is a time when sincerity is extremely powerful. Notice how you talk and how others talk. Always remember that spoken words are potent and influential

The future hexagram #38:
"Opposition"

The meaning of hexagram #38

This hexagram implies a draw, an impasse or a stalemate. Like water and fire coming together, opposing forces bring activity to a standstill. The opposing forces you encounter may be the actions or opinions of others, or they may be one's own. An internal struggle may have brought you to a point where movement is impossible. This is a time to identify a higher vision for yourself. Look to see who shares your vision and who does not, who is in alignment with your cause and who is not. This is an opportunity to evaluate and decide on directions for future movement. The first step in dealing with opposition is identifying it.
