Mountain Water
Earth Water

The first hexagram #4 breaks down into the upper trigram of Mountain above the lower trigram of Water.

The successive transformed hexagram, #7, breaks down into a newly transformed upper trigram of Earth above an unchanged lower trigram of Water.

The starting hexagram #4:
"Youthful Inexperience"

The meaning of hexagram #4

Inexperience is a double edged sword. It leads one to make mistakes, but the mistakes are necessary in order to learn. Do not feign knowledge. Seek out experience and ask what you do not know. Over time, all gaps in knowlege will be filled.

The changing lines between hexagram 4 and hexagram 7

Changing line #6

"Transgressions do not Further One" - There comes a time when foolishness must be punished or when those who are foolish must be left to their own misery. Remember though, that one's response should be measured, and not the result of emotion. To overreact with a loss of control is to be foolish as well.

The future hexagram #7:
"The Army"

The meaning of hexagram #7

Even with powerful allies and armies, no success is possible if leadership wavers. Good leadership requires public strength, but more importantly: private discipline. Remember to treat your allies well, and support the greater good. Success at this time will be the result of strong interpersonal ties and dedicated personal discipline. To indulge one's ego or one's own personal ambitions will fail. A unified force will succeed. The importance of clear communication is also referenced here.
