Wind Wind
Mountain Wind

The initial hexagram #57 can be broken down into the upper trigram of Wind on top of an identical lower trigram of Wind.

The second changed hexagram, #18, breaks down into a transformed upper trigram of Mountain on top of an unchanged lower trigram of Wind.

The starting hexagram #57:
"Spreading"

The meaning of hexagram #57

Like gentle wind wafting through a village, this hexagram suggests a time of influence and change. This is a time when clarity and truth can pierce through veils of illusion. Through earnestness and a sense of quiet peace, you can penetrate the hearts of those around you and spread goodwill and prosperity. This is a time to speak up and let your voice permeate the land. Communicate your wants and needs to those you love. The key here is to be gentle but continual with the expression of your dreams and wishes. Your will has incredible power to spread at this time. Be heard - but be true to yourself.

The changing lines between hexagram 57 and hexagram 18

Changing line #5

"Perseverance Brings Good Fortune"- Before you take action, ponder it for three days. After you have taken action, observe the results of it for three days. Current problems will improve by making wise decisions.

The future hexagram #18:
"Ruin"

The meaning of hexagram #18

Decay and destruction are indicated in this foreboding hexagram which literally means "Mountain above Wind". The cold winds have decended from the mountain and are destroying the crops below. What is being destroyed can be saved, but enormous efforts will be required. Only through dedication and tireless labor will what is cherished be kept safe. A time of scarcity is indicated. Time must not be wasted. To relax at this time is to ensure failure.
