The starting hexagram #6 is composed of the upper trigram of Heaven above the lower trigram of Water.
The following completed hexagram, #33, is built from a preserved, unchanged upper trigram of Heaven above a transitioned lower trigram of Mountain.
The starting hexagram #6:
"Conflict"
The meaning of hexagram #6
The message of this hexagram is that even those who go through life with good-will and the best intentions will at times meet with hostility and powerful opposition. At this time it is advised that conflict be avoided, for conflict at this time (even if justified) will lead to more serious setbacks. There are times when a "cautious halt" can be far more powerful than the most aggressive response.
The changing lines between hexagram 6 and hexagram 33
Changing line #2
"Return Home"- There are times in which the only way to avoid conflict is to retreat. At this time, since conflict is to be avoided, it is advised that even a retreat is better than to engage in hostilities. Such actions will ultimately benefit your entire household and community. There is no shame in a retreat at this time.
Changing line #3
"Danger"- A change in this line is a warning that things are imminently about to become dangerous or risky. An avoidance of conflict will result in good news. It should be noted however that the credit for some of your actions will go to another. Do not resist this at this time. Be content with the good fortune that comes your way.
The future hexagram #33:
"Retreat"
The meaning of hexagram #33
Advantage can often be gained by moving backwards temporarily, before again moving forward. This is a time to take a break, go on vacation or spend time alone. Step away from the "battlefield" for a time. Be willing to survey progress as well as losses. Cut losses and allegiances that hold you back from your goals. Reevaluate everything. Retreat can be a sign of strength here. This type of retreat is not the same as surrender; this is a regrouping of your forces.
