I Ching Hexagram #2

Your love life is on fertile ground right now. Hexagram number 2 denotes "devotion," "readiness," and the creative spirit of the Earth. A powerful relationship has begun or is soon to manifest. This hexagram reminds one to be open to the idea of love, as love can come from where you least expect it. Give and you will receive. Offer a kind word to someone, a hug, a greeting or an offer of assistance. See love for what it is: A conscious act of devotion and a willingness to stand by a special person. Creativity and the act of creation are referenced here, and creative energies will play an extremely significant role.

"The Ice is Coming"

Your heart may have a temporary cold spell. Pay attention to relationship problems now, as they are warnings of even greater problems yet to come. Issues with a partner ought to be addressed at this early stage, or else they may magnify.

Changes in Line 2

"Solidity in Relationship"

I Ching hexagram 2 shown with changing-line #2 highlighted

Take your time to build a stable foundation. Don't burden your partner with demands that are too high. Better to stack one brick at a time, then build your temple on a weak foundation.

Changes in Line 3

"For the Greater Good"

I Ching hexagram 2 shown with changing-line #3 highlighted

This is a potent time when your love will help and be of service to someone else. Make every action count. Not only will you assist someone special to you, you will serve the good of the whole. Look people in the eye. Send the energy of love through your eyes. Turn your interactions into sacred moments.

Changes in Line 4

"Put on a Cloak"

Keep a low profile right now. Risk is associated with visibility here. Keep your thoughts about a special someone under wraps until the risk passes. There will be a more opportune time to communicate in the coming days.

Changes in Line 5

"Wear a Bright Garment"

I Ching hexagram 2 shown with changing-line #5 highlighted

The 'garment' in this case is symbolic. It refers to your own brightness. This is a time to shine authentically. Let your natural glow come out and others will be attracted to you. Look beneath the surface to find what is inherently special in yourself and another.

Changes in Line 6

"The Battle of Dragons"

This could be a time of differences coming out. Small debates may arise with someone. This is a battle which has been fought before

NOTE: A quick rule of thumb is that the hexagram's upper trigram points to external forces, while the bottom trigram points to internal forces.

In the case of hexagram #2, the upper and lower trigrams are identical. One should note however, that a single trigram can have subtely different messages in the top and bottom positions.

Hexagram #2's Upper and Lower Trigrams of Earth

The evenly split trigram of Earth is also referred to as the trigram of the Receptive. Its characteristic traits are a loving devotion and a resilient bowing to applied energies. It may also represent 'motherhood' or powerful feminine energies. The unbroken lines of the hexagram of Earth may also reference the direction 'southwest'

A note on iFate's I Ching translation: This is not a direct translation of the original "Book of Changes" from 1000 BC. While multiple translations of the original text are available, they include many archaic references and can be difficult to understand for 21st century readers. iFate uses our own modern rewritings (two different editions) of the "Book of Changes" which makes interpreting I Ching readings far simpler.
