How to interpret "Retreat And Reflection"

NOTE: This is the "Love I-Ching" interpretation. For standard, non romance-specific I Ching interpretations please return to the reference page here.

This is a time to slow down and take a break. Love and wellbeing can often be increased by first pausing or slowing down temporarily, before again moving forward. Step off the "romantic battlefield" for a time. Knowingly trust that love is not lost by taking such a break. This is a great time to take yourself out or treat yourself to something. Meditate and go inward. Notice how much you've learned from past relationships. Be willing to survey your progress as well places you still feel stuck. Let go of ideas and beliefs that hold you back from your deepest goals. Reevaluate everything about love and life. Retreat is a sign of strength here. This type of retreat is not the same as giving up; this is a regrouping of cosmic forces. The fire of love will soon burn even more brightly for you as a result.

Changes in Line 1

"Retreating without Hesitation"

Why wait until the last minute to retreat? If the signs are pointing to a beneficial retreat, the wise person pursues their escape route immediately. If your love life has hit a rough patch, take some time to look at it from the sidelines.

Changes in Line 2

"Deciding Deliberately"

Once retreat is set as your course of action, don't look back. Activate your decision with a sense of vigor and trust. Know that your actions now are paving the way toward deeper love down the road. Don't let your decision go astray. Tie yourself to your decision as if you are tying up a wild horse.

Changes in Line 3

"Handling Blocks"

A special someone may attempt to block your retreat. Don't let this happen. Keep strong your intention to retreat. Don't let other people's opinions alter your plans. Don't let love blind you from your self

Changes in Line 4

"Love Thyself and Love Increases"

This line is a reminder that once you have decided to be loving to yourself, you open the door for increased love in your life. This is a universal truth: Love yourself and you will attract more love. Be kind and gentle with yourself during this time. Take things slow and your heart will open.

Changes in Line 5

"Special Presence"

This line is a sign of progress and growth. You have withdrawn attention and energy from a negative person and this brings deep love to your life from a new direction. You have a special presence at this time that creates a secret admirer.

Changes in Line 6

"Bright and Cheerful Retreat"

The weight from one's shoulders will lift as retreat unfolds. You've made great strides. Wounds of the heart have healed. You've made the proper decision. Light and love are shining down on you.

A note on iFate's I Ching translation: This is not a direct translation of the original "Book of Changes" from 1000 BC. While multiple translations of the original text are available, they include many archaic references and can be difficult to understand for 21st century readers. iFate uses our own modern rewritings (two different editions) of the "Book of Changes" which makes interpreting I Ching readings far simpler. For iFate's additional contemporary re-writing of the original text, see our "Love I Ching" translation.
