NOTE: This is the "Love I-Ching" interpretation. For standard, non romance-specific I Ching interpretations please return to the reference page here.

This hexagram indicates the force of change in a relationship. On the whole, this is a positive time, but you may be in for an emotional ride as the winds of change pick up speed and change the parameters of your life. Someone special may act in a surprising ways at this time. Rest assured that these winds will eventually calm. This is a reminder to be humble toward outside forces in your relationships. Control what you can, surrender to what you cannot. Change can be both positive and negative. Even if you feel powerless inside, this is only illusion. The wise person knows a weak force is capable of restraining a stronger force. Take small steps. Embrace the natural course of relationships, but do not lose yourself. Even if change is inevitable, there are choices you must still make.

Changes in Line 1

"Return to the Path"

We all want love most of all. As we look for love, we frequently come across pain and obstacles which cannot be passed. We've inadvertently strayed off the path. This line reminds us that we are free to return to the point where we left the path at any time. Be willing to start over with someone. Good fortune awaits on the more travelled road.

Changes in Line 2

"Following the Wise"

Obstacles to love and romance can be overcome by learning from others. This is a good time to read a new book on relationships, seek counsel from a friend, or join a support group. Observe the paths taken by others and you will see empowering options you had not previously considered.

Changes in Line 3

"The Wheels Come Off the Wagon"

Your love life will slow or halt temporarily at this time. A wagon has been pushed to the limits and now it faces destruction as the wheels are torn from the spokes. The result is tension all around. Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Everything changes.

Changes in Line 4

"Be helpful and Sincere"

This is a time to offer sincere help to someone else. Offer a gentle and loving opinion, or do something nice for someone. Even if your gesture is not well received at first, in the end there will be good fortune

Changes in Line 5

"Sincere Cooperation Fuels Romance"

This is a good time to start something new with a special someone. Take a trip or start a new venture. Your synergy with another will come easily. This line references the additional power that is created by a combination of forces. Great chemistry is in store for you.

Changes in Line 6

"Rain Followed by Rest"

This changing line at the top of the hexagram symbolizes a cloudburst and a release of tensions. Expect a squabble with someone, but know that the air will be fresh and clear immediately after the storm. This line also indicates a female victory.

A note on iFate's I Ching translation: This is not a direct translation of the original "Book of Changes" from 1000 BC. While multiple translations of the original text are available, they include many archaic references and can be difficult to understand for 21st century readers. iFate uses our own modern rewritings (two different editions) of the "Book of Changes" which makes interpreting I Ching readings far simpler. For iFate's additional contemporary re-writing of the original text, see our "Love I Ching" translation.
