How to Do A
"Four Elements"
Tarot Reading
The Four Elements tarot reading is one of those easy but deep types of tarot spreads. With each spread position representing one of the primary mystical elements (Earth, Air, Fire or Water) the spread asks us to pay special attention to the element associated with each card.
In most readings, the elemental associations add marginal additions to the overall meaning. With this reading however, elemental associations are lifted to a higher level of importance.

Reading Tips for the "Four Elements" Tarot Spread
When reading the Four Elements four-card tarot spread, keep in mind that each card in the tarot deck has its own elemental association with Earth, Air, Fire or Water.
Pay special attention when a fire card appears in the fire spread position, or when a water card appears in the water spread position. In these cases, those cards should be given special importance.
Likewise, pay attention to elements which are compatible, or which compliment each other.
- Air and Fire feed one another, and magnify the effect of the card in this placement, or indicate synergy.
- Earth and Water feed one another, and magnify the effect of the card in this placement, or indicate synergy.
- Fire and Water oppose one another, and diminish the effect of the card in this placement — or highlight a problematic issue.
- Air and Earth oppose one another, and diminish the effect of the card in this placement — or highlight a problematic issue.
