Yod Symbols are an interesting Tarot symbol appearing on four different cards on the seminal Rider-Waite Tarot deck.

The same identical symbols won't necessarily show up in more modern decks, but many modern Tarot sets will feature adaptations of the same, generally accepted Rider-Waite Tarot iconography.

Here's What Yod symbols indicate in Tarot

"Yod" (or "Yodh") is simplest of all Hebrew letters. Despite being a small letter, the letter Yod carries profound Kabbalistic and spiritual importance. It's also an important symbol according to the mystic rites of Freemasons.

In many cards of the classic Tarot deck, Yod symbols are used to symbolize intense spiritual significance — or to convey the ideas of the Divine and the power of a spiritual and holy nature.

Two Yod symbols written in a row are frequently used to signify the name of God in ancient Hebrew and Aramaic manuscripts. The abbreviation is used to show respect, rather than actually writing God's name.

In many cards of the classic Tarot deck, Yod symbols are used to symbolize intense spiritual significance — or to convey the ideas of the Divine and the power of a spiritual and holy nature.

Whenever they make an appearance it is a sign that a deep mystical energy courses behind the situations or events depicted on the card.

Here Are the Four Tarot Cards on Which Yod Symbols Can Be Found

The Ace of Cups

The Ace of Cups

NOTE: The Ace of Cups contains more Yods than any other card in the Tarot deck, signifying the power, mystery and importance inherent to the act of creation.

The Ace of Swords

The Ace of Swords

NOTE: The Ace of Swords shows just 6 Yod symbols. Of all the cards with Yod symbols, the Ace of Swords has the fewest Yods.

The Tower

The Tower

NOTE: The Tower card contains 22 Yod symbols. It's notable that the number 22 for numerologists is the number of the 'Master Builder' and is one of 3 important Master Numbers. The juxtaposition of the Master Builder number and the doomed Tower is intentional — reminding us who the ultimate Master Builder really is.

The Moon

The Moon

NOTE: The Moon Tarot card contains 15 different Yod symbols.
